Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever, a book by Sara Shepard who is also the author of Pretty Little Liars, is one of my favorite books at the moment. This book is in a series called The Lying Game, and the series is about secrets, lies, and killer consequences. What drew me in was that this book has an original and thrilling plot and I would recommend it to anybody that likes action and mystery. It has a balance of romance, drama, and action for anybody to enjoy.

Emma , one of the main characters, was forced to pretend to be her twin sister who she had never crossed paths with before. Her twins name is Sutton. Sutton gets murdered but has no idea who it could be. All of her loved ones still thinks she's alive. Emma tries to solve the mystery of Sutton's death but the more she looks, the more suspects get revealed. When Sutton was alive her and her friends played a lot of games that ruined people's lives. She was popular and a bully, the complete opposite of Emma. Who had to live with foster care. There used to be a show based on this series but it ended last year. But the show was a little different then the book because Sutton was alive.

Sara Shepard is one of my favorite authors. She uses a lot of cliffhangers and foreshadowing in most of her works. Her details are very specific, filled with lots of imagery. She's very mysterious, if you've read her books or have seen the shows based on them you'll know what I mean. The TV shows aren't anything compared to the books though. Here's a question for you, if you had to switch places with somebody who would it be and why?

My View on Catching Fire

The second book of the Hunger Games series is Catching Fire written by Suzanne Collins. I've read all three books but I decided to write about the 2nd book for my independent reading assignment because it's my favorite. It's my favorite because there's drama and it's the most exciting of the three books. And having watched the movie that was based on this book I saw what the book was like visually and I was inspired to make this post about it.

Katniss and Peeta have luckily survived the Hunger Games. They won't stay relieved for long though. There are rumors that a rebellion is going to break loose because of the two "star-crossed lovers" Peeta and Katniss. Out of nowhere the next Hunger Games are going to include all of the victors from the past. Time is running out until Katniss and Peeta have to visit all of the districts on the Capital's Victory Tour, and they need to make everybody believe that Peeta and Katniss are in love or the consequences will be harsh. There are exciting new characters like Mags, Finnick, Beetee, and Johanna who became Katniss and Peetas' allies.

Summer Reading Book Review

I read Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple for my summer reading assignment. The book is set in present time in Seattle. Bernadette, one of the main characters, is an architect who has only created and designed one building and is a major people-phobic. She hates Seattle but her family has to live there because of her husbands job in Microsoft. Elgie, her husband, thinks she is fear-less and later on starts questioning whether she has gone mad. The fellow private-school mothers despise her. Nobody in Seattle likes her and almost all the time she stays in her house. Then Bernadette disappears. It's up to Bee, Elgie and Bernadettes daughter, to find her. It all started when Bee got really good grades on her report card and all she desired to do was go on a cruise to Antarctica. After rummaging through past emails and letters she was able to find her mother.

I didn't like this book as much so I'm giving it a 2.5 out of 5. The reason I don't like this book is because most of the book is in email or letter format and that gets boring. Also in the book there are not many exciting parts but when it does get exciting it doesn't last. Semple also included unnecessary pages and conversations. Although I didn't like this book I like Bee's character and personality because I can relate. She is independent, caring, funny. and witty. The next book I will read is The Fault In Our Stars because I've been told it was a great book and it will make you emotional.
